How do you teach a cat to use the cat flap?
Hey, you UK-ers with cat flaps ... I'm in the U.S., but have indoor-outdoor cats, and we recently tried installing a cat door so that our 3 kitties can go in and out as they please. They love the new freedom, but they hated the heavy plastic flap and couldn't seem to figure out how to open it by pushing with their heads. So, we removed the flap, since the weather is warm, but now we have flies coming in through the open cat door. How do you get your cats to understand and accept using the flap? Thanks for your help!
Once they've started going through the hole, put the door back on and using a clothes peg on the side of the door wedge it partly open. Because they can still see through to the other side they will push it a little bit to get through. Once they get the hang of that move the peg down and leave it just a little bit wedged. Once again, they'll push it because they now know it opens and they can still see or smell the fresh air. Once they're confident with that, take off the peg. They'll push now to get through.
The process usually takes a couple of weeks.

Importance of Cat Flap
We were going to talk about cat flap and its importance. Why we need cat flap for our cat? And what are the benefits of this? Cat flap or in simple word we call it kitty door, is a hinged flap set into a door, wall or window to allows your cat to come in and out whenever it feels like it. Cat is a territorial animal like dog but they are hard to train unlike dog. When you have a new cat in your house you need to give him a time to adjust in his new environment. There are times that a cat need to go outside and it is not good for you to assist him all the time especially when you are busy. This will also help you to prevent your cat from jumping the windows and scratching the doors.
However, there are some concerns regarding cat flaps, one of this is that it allows other cats to enter in your house too.
